Field Note 001

I Almost Didn’t Start This

The first obstacle was not the gear, the website, the platforms, or Final Cut Pro. The first obstacle was pressing record.

POTA is the timeline. Life is the story.

I have been trying to record the first video for KB2KHL, and I will be honest: I kept freezing up. I thought the hard part would be learning the cameras, getting the audio right, setting up the platforms, or figuring out the editing workflow.

Turns out, the hard part was being willing to start imperfectly.

This channel is supposed to be about ham radio, POTA, parks, field gear, road trips, faith, stewardship, and making life’s second half count. But if I wait until the first video is perfect, then I am not living the message. I am just polishing the runway and never letting the plane roll.

What this field journal is for

YouTube will be where the main stories live. The Field Journal is different. This is the written record behind the videos: the place, the park, the log, the lesson, the photo, the failed attempt, the quiet thought, and the reason it mattered.

Some entries will come from POTA activations. Some will come from road days. Some will be about gear, the Beast, power systems, radio setups, park stamps, or lessons learned while trying to build something real.

The honest beginning

I wanted the first video to feel strong. I wanted the story to be clear. I wanted the site, the camera work, the audio, the field notes, and the entire creator setup to make sense before I stepped out in public.

But that is not how real life works. Real life starts before everything is ready. Faith does not usually hand you the whole map. Sometimes you just get the next step.

If I wait until everything is perfect, I will never start.

So this is me starting

One clip. One park. One contact. One stamp. One lesson at a time.

I am Jason. My callsign is KB2KHL. This is the beginning of the Field Journal, and this is the beginning of life’s second half.

God bless. Until next time, leave it better than you found it. 73.
